Hi! I'm Kathleen Whitham Rhodes and I live in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Here's a bit of background information about me, and what prompted me to start this business:
When I retired from teaching after many years in the profession, I immediately started thinking, now what? Free time is something I've never really had in abundance, and I'll have to admit that I find the prospect of too much of it a bit daunting. So, I asked myself, besides teaching French, what can I do that not everyone else can do as well or better than I? And, voilà, pie-making popped into my mind. You see, I'm the mother of five (and grandmother of eight), and over the years I've spent a great deal of time in the kitchen cooking and baking for my five sons and their numerous friends and now my eight grandchildren. But there's one more important piece to this puzzle. I was born and raised in Indiana and, back in the day, my mother, Rita Johnson Whitham, was famous for her delicious pies with a perfect, homemade crust. She's the one who taught me how to make a good crust (and there's no good pie without a good crust!), and how to finish it off with an excellent filling. So I dedicate my pie-making enterprise to my mother, Rita Whitham. I think about her with every pie I make.
